In a bid to help farmers boost the growth of their crops and increase their yields, Rt. Hon. Gwottson Dalyop Fom has distributed over 1,000 bags of 25kg golden fertilizer to farmers across the 67 hamlets of Kuru District, where he hails from.
Gwottson, who was the former Deputy speaker of the 10th Assembly of Plateau state, pointed out that agriculture was a major source of livelihood in Kuru, so he thought it wise to step in and support farmers in the community, considering the escalation of prices of commodities in the market.
"My people, who are predominantly farmers, are struggling to buy fertilizer. I'm no longer in office today, but I know how hard the times are. God has been gracious and merciful to me and I dim it fit to do the same for others. I know exactly how it feels to be desperately needy. This is my major motivation for all the philanthropic work I have done all these years. As for this fertilizer, we have set in place an all-inclusive sharing formula void of any bias whatsoever," he added.
The TIC Chairman of Jos South LGA, Hon. Peter Vwang Dung who performed the symbolic presentation of fertilizer to Traditional leaders and hamlet representatives, described Gwottson as a remarkable leader and son who is sensitive to the times. He applauded him for contributing his quota to helping the masses at such a time as this. Vwang-Dung urged the beneficiaries to resist the temptation of selling the fertilizer.
Speaking on behalf of the immediate past members of PLHA who graced the occasion, Rt. Hon Moses Sule, the former Speaker, commended Gwottson for allowing God to use him as an instrument of positive impact. He pointed out the remarkable contributions of Gwottson during their stay in office and maintained that Kuru District should count themselves blessed to have a son like him. He concluded by besieging the populace to use the fertilizer precisely for the purpose it's meant for.
In the words of Hon. Ishaku Maren, former Majority leader of the 10th Assembly, "Rt. Hon. Fom Gwottson is an exceptional leader. In one way or the other, we have all tapped from what God has endowed in him, which is why, despite being notified of this program just yesterday, 13 out of 16 displaced members of the Assembly are here today."
The acting Gbong Gwom Kuru, Dagwom Kushe - Da Pius Jugu, who spoke on behalf of the Kuru traditional council, maintained that Hon. Gwottson has been known for his philanthropic gestures spanning over a decade in Kuru community and beyond. He eulogized and branded him a son in whom Kuru is well pleased. He then showered prayers for abundant blessings and prosperity on Hon. Gwottson.
Da. Bulus Kwis, the Damanjei Rorian, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed their appreciation for the kind gesture. He noted that the fertilizer would greatly improve their harvests and ultimately their livelihood, considering the times. He added that the support came at the right time, as they have been grappling with the high cost of fertilizer with low yields.
Another beneficiary, Sele Tong, had this to say, "To the best of my knowledge this is the 11th year of unceasing massive interventions in the land of kuru and beyond from our father and son, Hon. Gwottson. For this particular fertilizer we count lucky because the Mutfuwang administration had earlier provided subsidized elect fertilizer for us and our son has also step in with 1,000 bags of fertilizer. Were so grateful and we pray that God will bless him abundantly."
Notable figures present at the occasion include; Da Prof. Pam & Ngo Chundung Sha, leaders of the 67 hamlets; PDP excos, stakeholders and supporters.
The occasion was held at GSS Kanadap Kuru on Tuesday, July 9th, 2024.
