The publication by Prince Harrison Dingoli of Voice of Adamawa, alleging that LCCN Bishop Nelson Malau endorsed Alhaji Ahmed Tijjani Galadima ahead of the 2027 governorship election, is false, misleading and a gross misrepresentation of what transpired.
The delegation visited several Christian leaders and institutions, including the Archbishop Panti, Numan CAN and Bishop Malau, as courtesy visits at their respective offices. Why, therefore, did Harrison Hamson Dingoli who sits in Jos, single out Bishop Malau, use his photograph and manufacture a political endorsement that never happened?
That is not responsible journalism. It is a deliberate misrepresentation capable of damaging the reputation and integrity of a respected religious leader.
Mr. Dingoli should be reminded that Facebook is not a law-free zone, and the pursuit of likes, followers and political relevance is not a defence to defamation.
We therefore demand the immediate retraction of the publication and a clear, public and unreserved apology to Bishop Nelson Malau and the LCCN.
This is not a request for debate. It is a demand for the correction of a publication that attributed a political position to a man who never made such a statement.
If the publication is not promptly retracted and the apology issued, appropriate legal action will be instituted without further notice.
Let this also serve as a warning to bloggers and online publishers: political journalism is not a licence to invent endorsements, put words into the mouths of respected individuals or drag religious institutions into political battles.
The era of manufacturing stories for likes and followers at the expense of people's reputation must end. Where necessary, the law will be allowed to take its course. This time we are not letting this one slide, we are coming with a firestorm.
