Chief Crowther Seth , a consummate politician from Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State, is certainly not a novice in Adamawa politics.
He is among very few politicians who rose from the position of councilor to that of Deputy Governor. Chief Crowther Seth was elected Executive Chairman Lamurde Local Government Council and also appointed Commissioner among others.
When in the wake of the 2019 General Elections, Crowther was nominated to run on a joint ticket with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, his nomination from the Bwatiye race and Numan Federation was a popular and well received decision at that time.
It was assumed that his influence and popularity gave credence to the ticket and the party, the PDP, including an uncommon advantage to uproot the incumbent Governor, Bindow Umaru Jibtilla of the APC.
The Numan Federation provided the bloc votes that catapulted the PDP to power in Adamawa State in 2019. Soon as Fintiri/ Crowther Seth Administration began on 29th May, ,2019, the Deputy Governor's character traits began to manifest. Complaints ranging from unreceptive attitude and unguarded utterances especially to individual politicians and groups was unbecoming of the number 2 citizen who should have a level of decorum in his choice of words and demeanor in public places.
Reports have it that Deputy Governor Seth, is fond of breaching protocols as he sometimes stops his convoy to order people out of the convoy, just as he is alleged to have been personally asking people out of his residence on several occasions.
This is apart from the smoldering political and security breaches for which the Deputy Governor is complacent. More pronounced is his allege romance with the prime suspect in the Lunguda/ Waja crisis and his allege pronouncement at a security meeting which did not go down well with one side of the disputing communities. These threats have clearly jeopardize the acclaimed peace building process of the Fintiri administration. Instead of building on the relative peace achieved within the period, pockets of crisis experienced in the early days of the new Government were allegedly fuelled by a major beneficiary of the Government through his actions and inactions.
At some events or state functions , especially where both the Governor and his Deputy are in attendance, uneasy calm characterized by booing and threat to disrupt function have always been averted only through Governor Fintiri's diplomatic polish brinkmanship in crowd management and humane disposition to people.
This however made the relationship between Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and his Deputy Crowther Seth to oscillate between bloom and gloom, with a huge potential to go awry someday. Recent developments NEW HERALD MAGAZINE was told, indicate that the relationship has already degenerated to a cat and dog relationship.
Very sensitive public function s even in the absence of the Governor were subtly kept way from the Deputy Governor for fear of his incompetence or political thugs and aggrieved political class embarrassing the government at the event. This is apart from the tactical manoeuvres and decoys which indicate that the Deputy Governor is as good as being avoided and quarantined by Government, political associates and his people like a veritable PERSONA NON GRATA!
Unverified sources also claim that funds and running costs of office of the Deputy Governor have been drastically slashed from between 40-45 Million monthly to about 15 Million Naira or thereabout .
The heavy security presence , especially the about 60 armed policemen earlier detailed to man the security, around the Deputy Governor, his office, convoy and residence has been reduced to less than 10 by the Deputy Governor in order to pocket the allowances meant for them. Little wonder that twice the office of the Deputy Governor was burgled by bandits who made away with electronics and other valuables.
The question now is whether Chief Crowther Seth is still the Deputy Governor of Adamawa State.
Spurned by politicians and lampooned by the media, Crowther Seth has apparently opted to die in silence.
It is rumoured that some powerful politicians are angling for his removal as his continued stay in Government, according to them , will be a minus to the 2023 reelection bid of Governor Fintiri.
Chief Crowther Seth may be standing alone in his travails as not even his Bwatiye Community has offered any consolation having allegedly severed relationship with him and expanded the gulf between him and his Community.
The Deputy Governor still has up to two years to impress his principal and win back the hearts of his disgruntled political allies and supporters to give him another chance.
