There is a difference between legitimate scrutiny and political desperation.
The attempt to reduce the political career of Hon. Sanusi Faruk Jauro (SF), the Labour Party Deputy Governorship Candidate and running mate to Senator Ishaku Abbo for 2027, By Yusuf Vandi on a social media with the title " LABOUR PARTY DEPUTY GOVERNOR CANDIDATE AND THE 2.2M QUESTION." citing an old newspaper report is nothing more than a politically motivated attempt to diminish a man whose grassroots relevance cannot be wished away.
If the writer is genuinely interested in accountability, let him present the complete court records, subsequent proceedings and final outcome of the cases. An arraignment or allegation is not, by itself, a conviction. Selectively presenting an old report while withholding the rest of the story is not accountability; it is political storytelling.
Before introducing SF to Adamawa through an old allegation, perhaps his political history should first be understood.
Sanusi Faruk Jauro is a grassroots politician. He started as a Councillor before the good people of Toungo Constituency elected him into the Adamawa State House of Assembly in 2007, where he became Majority Leader under the PDP administration of former Governor Murtala Nyako. At the time, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri was Minority Leader under the ACN.
SF also played a significant role in bringing Fintiri into the ruling political structure and connecting him with Governor Nyako. That relationship became politically consequential, particularly in 2011 when Nyako supported Fintiri's emergence as Member representing Madagali Constituency.
His political journey subsequently took him into the Nyako administration as an Adviser, and later into the Fintiri administration as Commissioner for Youths and Sports.
That is the political history some people now want the public to forget.
SF is not a political newcomer created by the 2027 election. He is a seasoned political actor with longstanding grassroots connections, particularly in Ganye Chiefdom, where he is popularly known as SF and remains a recognised political figure.
His emergence as Labour Party Deputy Governorship Candidate alongside Senator Ishaku Abbo therefore carries political significance. It reflects experience, grassroots reach, political relationships and an understanding of Adamawa's political terrain.
Nobody is saying SF is perfect. Nobody is a saint. If you believe you have lived a flawless life, then by all means continue casting stones.
But political criticism must be fair.
If there are questions about SF's past, let the evidence speak. If there are court records, publish them. If there are final judgments, let the public see them. But do not turn an allegation into a conviction simply because it is politically convenient.
And if we are opening the books of political history, let everybody's book be opened, not just SF's.
The people deserve the records of APC, PDP, Labour Party and every other candidate, without selective outrage.
What we are witnessing is the kind of politics that continues to spoil our polity: old allegations recycled at election time, political narratives manufactured to please paymasters, and character assassination presented as journalism.
We are not afraid of scrutiny.
But scrutiny must be equal.
And since they have decided to start digging into political histories, they should be prepared for us to unveil our own findings on the APC candidate with facts, records and evidence.
The 2027 election will not be won by recycling old headlines.
It will be won through credibility, experience, grassroots acceptance, political organisation and the confidence of the people.
Sanusi Faruk Jauro has been part of Adamawa's political history for years. His record deserves scrutiny, yes, but it also deserves context.
Let the debate be about the whole man, not a carefully selected headline.
Let everybody's record come to the table.
2027 is coming. The people will decide.
