Member representing Guyuk constituency in the state House of Assembly has been giving an award of merit by the National Association of Nunguraba Students (NANS) during its annual congress meeting which took place on the 8-9-2019 in UBE hall Yola.
Speaking at the occasion, the president of the association Comrade Ganba Ezra said that the award presented to Hon. Sunday Peter is not a sponsored award and it does have any political undertone, expatiating further that the association found him worthy to give him an award due to the exceptional priority he gave to education and effort made by him to reawaken educational programmes that will promote youths in the locality which lies dormant for years.
‘’Today’s award to right Hon. Sunday Peter, it is an Award of Merit, honor, and acknowledgment of the great measures of contributions to humanity and our dear land Guyuk L.G.A. He has opened our eyes to know and enjoy the dividend of democracy. He is indeed a humanitarian, his contributions and excellent representation has gone beyond a reasonable doubt.

Comrade Ganba added that immediately when the legislator came to power in 2015, he called the leadership of the association to hear the challenges bedeviling them and he bought canopies and chairs to them to serve as a source of income to the association.
He said that Hon. Sunday Peter also in his effort to promote education in his constituency he gave scholarship to students who are in tertiary institutions, and most importantly he is grooming not less than 200 students who are feeding them and paying their school fees and will equally pay their WAEC, NECO and JAMB fee when they came to SS 3, apart from the computer programme sponsored by him to mitigate computer illiteracy among Youths in his constituency.
‘’To prove to humanity that he is too much, he has given scholarships to students in all category of our tertiary institutions cut across Adamawa State. Ladies and gentlemen, may I let you know that, Hon. Sunday Peter has also done two or more visible, tangible projects to each of the ten (10) political wards in Guyuk Local Government. This is very few among many unmentioned. Sir, Your Excellent Scorecard has compelled for your award today’’
‘’He has introduced a football tournament and the establishment of Sunday Peter football team whereby placing our youths on monthly allowances. That was not satisfactory enough to him, he again brought forth the Sunday Peter Education Support initiative (SPESI) with a large number of students are benefiting, he employed teachers and provides the feeding of these students, pay their WAEC registration fee after a successful graduation aside the employment of the 110 people done at the Local Government’’
The president also lamented that large number of graduate in Guyuk with excellent certificate are only serving private schools that are not even paying them what they deserved, adding further that most of the secondary schools in Guyuk local government are lacking science teachers which according to him is the reason why the locality have insignificant number of student studying medicine, pharmacy and engineering courses and he uses the medium to call on the member representing the constituency to channel the outcry to the state government.
‘’It is a pity to let you know that, with the large number of graduate we have in Guyuk, with excellent certificate some have gone for their second degree, some are even undergoing their third degree (Ph.D.). They are only serving private schools that are not even paying them what they deserve. I must let you know that, our secondary schools in Guyuk are lacking science teachers, that is why we only have an insignificant number of students, studying Medicine, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, Engineering courses and other professional courses, and with the negligible figure in comparison with other places, they privilege ones are those that attended private schools. I fear for what will be our faith and of our children in this generation and the next to come. I look forward to seeing our youths employed and serve our in secondary schools in Guyuk L.G.A’’
Responding by the awardee, Hon. Sunday Peter thank the leadership of the National Association of Nunguraba Students for giving him such a meritorious award, promising that throughout his tenure he will continue to give special attention to education which according to him by extension will touch the lives of youths in the locality. The legislator explains further that he is making an effort to ensure that he starts giving scholarship quarterly with a special focus on final year students which to him will help them in writing their projects.
Reacting to the outcry of the NANS president, Hon. Sunday Peter said that he is not only on his toes but also on his fingers to ensure that he lobbies for more vacancies for the people of his constituency, adding that so far the state government has given him an approval to employ 95 teachers and 57 non-teaching staff to Guyuk Local Education Authority.
Expatiating further, the youngest legislator in the hollow chamber maintain that he is still working tirelessly to employ not less than 200 primary school teachers and non-teaching staff to Guyuk Local Education Authority before the end of this year which according to him will go a long way to mitigate the menace of unemployment among youths in the constituency.
The special dignitaries at the occasion include commissioner of education, member representing Mayo-Belwa, Youth CAN chairman of Adamawa state, education secretary of Guyuk local government, staff officer Guyuk local government secretariat, president national association of Adamawa state students, former vice chairman and former chief of staff Guyuk Local government among others.
