By Comrade Shedrack Michael.
In my quest for good governance and accountability, I wish to call the attention of our member Hon. Gabriel Saleh over some burning issues of public Interest in Kachia/Kagarko Federal Constituency.
It's no longer news that there are mixed feelings over your representation from our constituent that need to be clarified.
Early 2019, N13,000,000 million was allocated to your office for the constituency project tagged "Advocacy on women and peacebuilding" in Kachia/Kagarko Federal Constituency. The advocacy on women and peacebuilding would have been of help to our constituents and environs if correctly done. The efficacy of the program can't be overstated. The need to reduce gender-based violence, domestic violence, domination by one gender, and protect women's rights in our societies is of utmost importance. Still, unfortunately, the way it was done baffled me as it was reduced to mere sharing of N5000 naira to some few women with little or no awareness and proper enlightenment on the said topic.
Simultaneously, N65,000,000 million was said to be allocated to Kachia/ Kagarko Federal Constituency for " Construction of 30 kilometres Road in Kubacha - Kushe community in Kagarko LGA. Well, it may interest you to know that your constituent has so much concern about the project. I write to call your attention to flag off the project in the said locations. The two communities have been battling with the bad road, leading to many setbacks in the areas.
Early 2020, N38,000,000 million was allocated to your office for a constituency project tagged "Supply of fertilizer to farmers for Agriculture empowerment". The essence is to boost Agriculture and food security, attract local and foreign investors, and promote international collaboration among farmers in the area and the country. Farmers are the custodian of food security, yet little or no attention is given to the Agriculture sector in your constituency. I hope you're aware that 80% of the population in Kachia/Kagarko are farmers with little or no support from the government to boost Agriculture practice in the area. Kachia/Kagarko Federal Constituency is one of the constituencies with the highest supply of Ginger in Africa and ranked the best ginger world over. The fact is that 80% of Kachia/Kagarko are farmers with little or no support from the government, and the one is given ( fertilizer) seems to be hijacked for almost two years now.
On behalf of the constituent's, I wish to remind you about the 2020 fertilizer. It will be a stepping stone to many farmers if this fertilizer is supplied to your constituent. I knew what many pass through before they can afford a measure of fertilizer in the market. Many collect loans to ensure that they nurse their crops well, and the efficacy of fertilizer to crops yield can't be overemphasized. That's why most peasant farmers hardly progress because half of the haverst will go into loans they collected during the farming season at the end of the year.
This exploitation is increasing, especially in the Kachia/Kagarko constituency. The captain of industries and well-meaning individuals have been using this to exploit our peasant farmers in the villages. This can only reduce if the government initiates empowerment programmes for farmers and creates a platform for farmers to access loans from the government at the grassroot with subsidies. Then, governance will become even more accessible. Poverty and other social problems will also reduce.
In July 2019, you appointed a ward liaison officer in each of the wards in Kachia/Kagarko. Findings show that you only pay them twice, the month of July that you gave the appointments and December 2020, and that's all. My results also show that you call them for a meeting in March 2020 at Lavila Hotel Gwarimpa Abuja, where you told them that the money is too much for you to pay, seeing that you have other commitments. Still, the appointees should decide whether you should slash the funds to a lower amount that you can pay, and they synonymously agreed, and since then, they have heard nothing about the payment.
For whatsoever reason, the inability of you not able to pay your appointees is uncalled for. How will you feel if you were not paid as a member for almost three years? I advise you to rethink your decisions towards your staff's unpaid salary for more than three.
Also, in 2018 in Kubacha at Koro community chat forum (KCCF) annual program, you pledged N500, 000 to support a young gospel artist named Agah Kuti whose talent needs to be heard over. I Believe that money will help him in his music career. Agah Kuti talent is too big for Kaduna State. The world needs to hear him, which can only be achieved with support and sponsorship from a well-meaning individual like you. It's three years since you pledged to support this young artist, but he has not heard from you to date. I call on you to redeem your pledge.
If things continue this way under your leadership, then I am afraid that the future of our constituency is at stake. In the best interest and constituency, I call on you to execute all the Constituency projects that Fund has been allocated. Thank you, as I anticipate a positive response.
Best wishes.
