Political temperature of Guyuk local government seems to be calm and serene since after party primaries, until recently when one of the major political players in the area, Hon. Kobis Thimnu shocked everybody to bone marrow by decamping to APC alongside Boni Haruna and Ngilari.
The defection of Katuka and the blood brother of PDP house of assembly flag bearer came with a shock and has erected a big crack on the political façade of Guyuk by distorting the political calculations and blueprints of many politicians who have already designed their roadmap to 2019 election. Most of the politicians who were under his beck and call financially in PDP and are not ready to defect with him must go back to drawing board to redesign new plans on how to take off.
Meanwhile, even as the opposition party in Guyuk still suffering from the old wounds inflected by Hon. Kobis defection, another fresh wounds that will be hardly heal in any time soon has been opened by the exit of Hon. Bugie Ethan and the rumour of defection of another strong PDP stalwart in the local government which will soon send a shivers down the spin of many people in the locality.
People still see the political mathematics of those making hasty decisions of decamping from PDP even as election draws closer as a comedy of error after coming face to face with the reality that PDP has the highest chances of winning election particular in Guyuk owing to the popularity of the party even in the grassroots. Politics is a game of interest. When others are using algebra political formula to get their results, others are resorting to almighty formula, but the end justify the means.
Political analysts of the area see a red danger signal blinking on the horizon with decamp of Kobis Thimnu to APC owing to the fact that most of the political gladiators of Guyuk under the platform of APC are not in good terms with him coupled with the fact that political structure built by him when he was SSG is captured by other politicians who may found it increasingly difficult to reduce themselves so low under him as one of the political elders of the area who nourished the party at inception.
It could be vividly recalled that 24 hours after defection of Hon. Kobis from PDP, the campaign billboards and posters of incumbent member house of representative, Hon. Gutuwa were angrily tore into shreds, A scenario which further buttress the credibility of line of thought of the analysts who forecast doom for some politicians in APC.
Eye witness report that when the campaign billboards and posters of Hon. Gutuwa were smashed by youths suspected to be KATUKA boys, they took their time to boldly write in hausa language on the road close to the billboard ‘’KATUKA YA WUCE RAINI GUTUWA’’. Though, many people have been blowing whistle in the dark about the bone of contention that resulted to that test of powers, but a politician close to Katuka who spoke to me in confidence revealed that Hon. Gutuwa talk to Kobis with disdain in the office of the Governor when the Governor called them to reconcile their difference that exist since after 2015 election.
On the other hand, when Katuka and Gutuwa managing crises, there are strong indication that the chances and winning possibility of Hon. Sunday Peter has widen with the recent development of defection of his former boss despite the inevitable political crises that existed between them in the past. Those with photographic memory of the past will still remember how Kobis bestowed political love on Hon. Sunday Peter at the detriment of his blood brother which eventually led to his electoral success.
A card carrying member of PDP who spoke to spacereporters in confidence said that the decamp of Hon. Kobis to APC has never shake their party adding that katuka is not originally a member of PDP but he only came to look for a ticket and which he eventually lost and left with no option than to ran to APC to avoid the wrath of EFCC. He expatiate that as far as PDP is concern, all the politicians that defect from their party are no longer politically relevant in Guyuk which according to him all of them were mere spectators in the party before their exit.
