GUYUK HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY RACE: CANDIDATES, THEIR CHANCES AND CHALLENGES

EMME EMMA GWANAH
Guyuk local government is widely acknowledge by many political gladiators in the state as a political laboratory where political experiments are been carried out owing to the exceptional complexity and sophistication of its politics and expertise been display by the political players of the area.
This could be the reason why is still recorded in the annals of the constituency that since 1979 to date no member in Guyuk ever repeated his tenure. Those with photographic memory will easily remember that in all the members that served the constituency in the past none of them thought of re-contesting after first tenure with the exception of Hon. Yusuf Gambo who re-contested but crushed at the poll by Gibson Nathaniel in 2007.
I think Lunguda people have sworn that no member shall ever rule beyond four years until the one that deserve 8 years finally emerged thereby seeing 2nd tenure in office as a privilege that is exclusively reserved for achievers not for disasters. The question in the lips of critical thinkers with inquisitive minds remains: the members that we are voting into power from 1979 to date are they betraying the confidence and faith we repose in them or we lack orientation on the virtues and relevance of re-electing our members?
To me, the most unpredictable contest of this season remains the house of assembly contest of Guyuk constituency going with the blueprint and track record of all the candidates holding the flag of all the political parties in the area. This analyses is never calculated to favour nor promote any candidate, but is aim at spotlighting each candidate’s chances and challenges in the race purposely to educate the masses.
APC FLAGBEARER: HON. SUNDAY PETER
HON. SUNDAY PETER is the incumbent member voted 2015 to represent the constituency in the state legislative chamber. Due to his outstanding performance and immense contribution to his constituency compare to his successors, many people see him as a person who stand a big chance of breaking the stereotype political culture and jinx of single-term that the seat is known for by becoming the first member to represent the constituency for two consecutive tenure.
APC flag bearer may also likely have upper chance over the other contenders owing to his privilege of been the serving member of the constituency which will give him opportunity of having so many connection and political experience that will assist him in his political tussle. Another factor that cannot be left out in what will give SUNDAY PETER advantage in the forthcoming contest is his financial strength and the fact of holding a flag of a governing party.
Another point that many see as a reason why significant number of electorates in the constituency will throw their weight behind the youngest legislator in the forthcoming poll is because of the appreciable number of people he lobby to put in the local government secretariat and education authority payroll which virtually all villages under the constituency benefitted and also his education programme that support many youths in the grassroots who have been relegated to their background.
Some of the major challenges that SUNDAY PETER may likely encounter in the race at hand is the sworn hatred that people of Guyuk local government has for APC following the Fulani attacks on part of their land which has destroy the popularity of the party and equally the initial suspicious religious image the party has which the people of the constituency are not favourably dispose to it.
The worst of all the challenges the APC flag bearer may face is not far from the reality that majority of the relevant political gladiators in the area are with PDP and will support the flag bearer of their party therefore making the constituency a stronghold of the party. Another Achilles hells of SUNDAY PETER is lack of godfather that will stand for him unlike 2015 that former SSG KOBIS THIMNU stood for him as a pathfinder.

PDP FLAG BEARER: HON. ADWAWA W DONGLOCK
HON. ADWAWA is an energetic young politician who has never openly nor actively participate in politics apart from this season, but indication has shown that he has enter politics with luck to the point that many see him as a child of political destiny looking at how he gallantly emerged as the flag bearer of the most popular political party in his constituency.
Many people most especially youths praise-sing his name due to his friendly posture and philanthropical gesture to people even when he nurse no ambition of joining politics. Even with his financial instability he was reported to have brought national ID card officials from Yola to Guyuk for free registration of people in their door steps. He has equally proved beyond a limit of reasonable doubt that he is humane and will help people when giving chance owing to his relationship with people when he was the Personal Assistant to Kumthy Ezra.
Another major factor that may likely facilitate electoral success for PDP candidate in the forthcoming election apart from the popularity of his party is the fact that he still enjoy the glory of his father of a blessed memory who is widely believed to have written his name indelibly in the sand of the local government as a chairman that employed the highest workers ever in the LG secretariat aside his kindness to people.
The major challenge the PDP flag bearer may likely face is like of enough financial stamina and muscles to flex with the opposition candidates particular the APC aspirant. Political Analysts in the area noted that the majority of the supporters of ADWAWA are youths who can find it increasingly difficult to withstand the temptation of not selling their conscience when money is ready to exchange hands during the election.
He equally have a lot of home work to do in the core villages of the constituency if he really want to win the election, because apart from the local government metropolis, most of the outskirt villages still believe that the serving member has perform incredibly well to them most especially when conducting comparative analyses between his tenure with that of his successors. Much work has to be done in such villages if the PDP candidate is to be emerge winner in the forthcoming election.

SDP FLAG BEARER: HON. JOEL DIKANWA
SDP flag bearer HON. JOEL DIKANWA is a popular politician who has been actively in politics since the return of democracy. Before finishing his two consecutive tenure as the chairman of Guyuk Local government he was among the most popular and relevant politicians who were having crowd and equally enjoy the overwhelming support of political elders in the area which is why he was able to serve in his capacity of chairman of the LGA for two consecutive tenure.
The major factor that may likely facilitate the electoral success of HON. DIKANWA is the whooping population of his ward if they will truly rally round him at the election period. He hails from CHIKILA ward which record has it that is the ward with the highest number of polling units in Guyuk local government which election experience equally revealed that they always give block votes to any candidate that comes from their area irrespective of their party differences.
One of the major challenge of SDP flag bearer is not far from his shallow pocket and lack of popularity of his political party particular in this season compare to the previous years. Some analysts observed that even in their political party there are indications that many people will not support him most especially loyalists of his opponent in the primaries who see the election that field him to be their flag bearer as ‘’stolen goods’’
